DH-LM.08 : weight saving 40 kg for 3.5T vehicle range (09/06/2017)

The commercial vehicle industry is investing huge efforts and resources in developing light-weight and environmentally friendly inner-city distribution vehicles that can deliver merchandise over the last mile with maximum efficiency.  Since 4-cylinder cantilever tail lifts remain the predominant choice of transport companies in large parts of Europe, DHOLLANDIA is proud to launch a new lift model DH-LM.08, that fulfills all the requirements of a modern, efficient, clean and green distribution vehicle.

This DH-LM.08 will easily handle all cargo up to 750 kg nominal load. It uses carefully selected high-tensile steels and light-weight aluminium, combined with a clever design, to save weight and maximize the pay-load of the carrying vehicle, without compromising on safety, reliability and stability. Its main characteristics are:

  • Lift capacity 500-750 kg with 600 mm center of gravity
  • 4-cylinder technology, offering superior platform stability
  • New light-weight aluminum platform up to max. 1800 mm
  • Substantial weight saving on lift frame and mounting plates in comparison to the current DH-LM.10 (500-1000 kg)
  • Very versatile lift, available with a wide choice of value-adding options and extra equipment
  • Quick-fit mounting plates available for all popular brands of van chassis
  • Available in multiple wide-arm versions (lift arms on outside of chassis rails) or narrow-arm version (lift arms on inside of chassis rails) in function of the brand and type of van chassis
  • Suitable for trucks up to 1050 mm floor height
  • Equipped with a light-weight anodized aluminium bumper bar
  • Available with a towing hitch construction

Depending on the execution, the DH-LM.08 will give a WEIGHT ADVANTAGE OF 30 TO 40 KG over the current DH-LM.10. It will undoubtedly outperform most alternative 3-cylinder and 4-cylinder cantilever lifts on the market, and probably compete on similar level as some of the 2-cylinder lifts on offer. The gain in weight will be realized in various steps over the next couple of months, as newly designed components become available and can be incorporated. The DH-LM.10 remains fully available for higher floor levels (above 1050 mm) and higher lift capacities (1000 kg).

DH-CH003 with manually extensible platform undergoes major technical update (31/10/2016)

Few months after launching the 2016 generation of heavy-duty 350-500 kg cassette lifts DH-CH102 /  CH103,  DHOLLANDIA has lead the smaller 350 kg cassette lift DH-CH003 through an equivalent technological overhaul, and lifted it to a much higher level of finish and functionality.

The DH-CH101 / CH102 / CH103 have a single-piece platform and quite long cassette lengths, and are mainly installed on City & Intercity busses (CH102), long distance busses (CH102 / CH103) and coaches (CH101 / CH103). The updated DH-CH003 is much more compact, and is equipped with a manually extensible platform, ideal for installation on narrow body busses. Its design offers great versatility, and is suitable for multiple applications, such as:

  • At the side emergency door on school busses
  • In the step compartment on Intercity busses
  • Under the chassis on dedicated door on mid-range busses
  • Under the floor at the rear door on van conversions.

The overhaul of the DH-CH003 is in line with technology changes introduced on the DH-CH102 / CH103 (see newsletter 13/06/2016). With full communication to the vehicle through the lift’s PCB, this lift applies for all applications on M2 and M3 class vehicles (where it is mandatory to have brakes and door signal). Despite the manual extension of the platform, the DH-CH003 is also very fast. A full wheelchair loadcycle (sliding out to work position, lowering to the ground, lifting up to bus floor level, retracting back into travel position) can be executed in less than 1:45 min.

New compact 750-1000 kg side-mounted under floor lift (18/09/2016)

After more than 30 years of duty, the bespoke lift DH-REK is now being replaced by the DH-SOZ.10. Both the DH-REK and DH-SOZ are usually side mounted on truck chassis, in front of the rear axles, and used to load and unload at the side-doors of the truck body (often refrigerated bodies). In a typical application where delivery trucks supply food product into a chain restaurants, trucks are equipped with a heavier capacity tail lift at the rear to offload the full cages of fresh food product, and equipped with a lighter duty side mounted lift to reload empty trolleys or cages.

The DH-REK was a side-mounted fold-away lift, offering 1100 mm platform depth and max. 1000 kg lift capacity. The newly born DH-SOZ.10 has been developed as a very compact slide-away lift, and offers following features:

  • Lift capacity 750-1000 kg at 500 mm centre of gravity
  • Platform dimensions 1150 or 1350 mm long x 1600 mm wide
  • Huge improvement in handling ease, operation, and ergonomics
  • Conical platform. Level ride with automatic tilt at ground level
  • Fixed stabilizers, no adjustable tilt. Tilt cylinders and fully adjustable platform orientation are available as an option
  • Weight saving, full aluminium platform, easy and light to deploy
  • Compact prewelded sliding tube construction, developed for bolt-on mounting to the truck chassis. Lift is supplied with bolt-on extension tube construction that goes under the drive shaft of the truck, and joins to the other chassis beam for a perfect spread of forces.

Increasing demand for hot-dip zinc plated tail lifts: DH-LV (18/08/2016)

Thanks to the clear benefits in terms of long-term corrosion protection, durability and total cost of ownership (TCO), DHOLLANDIA feels a increasing demand for tail lifts in hot-dip zinc plated or galvanized finish, and is solicited by her clients to include more of the special lifts in the offer.  The latest addition to the range of galvanized lifts is the DH-LV 1500-4000 kg.

This cantilever lift  DH-LV is specially  designed to be mounted on trucks with a draw bar coupling mounted below the vehicle chassis, to work in combination with a center-axle trailer. The USP of this lift comprise of

  • a compact tailor-made lift frame, mounted in the limited clearance between the underside of the chassis on the one hand, and the draw bar coupling and trailer draw bar on the other hand;
  • a robust heavy-duty construction that caters for lift capacities up to 4.000 kg
  • a CE-certified articulated bumper bar, that can be lifted out of the way when truck and trailer are coupled together; or that can be lowered to the legal bumper height when the truck drives solo.

2016 generation cassette lifts now visible in the field. (13/06/2016)

DHOLLANDIA’s new generation of cassette wheelchair lifts, launched at Busworld Kortrijk 2015, have been introduced to the market via various OEM’s and coach builders in Europe, Asia-Pacific region and South-America, and become visible in the field.

Apart from a more discrete color scheme, which is the most apparent change on the 2016 generation of DH-CH102 / CH103 cassette lifts, the following important technological changes and improvements have been introduced:

  • Introduction of a 500 kg capacity execution to meet the increasing demand for higher capacities
  • Platform surface made of aluminium tear-plate, replacing the former manually applied non-slip coating. The tear plate is lighter weight, offers better non-slip characteristics, and is more durable over the full life-time of the lift.
  • Improved locking system for the safety rails in the raised, vertical position
  • Additional automatic mechanical lock for the hydraulically operated roll-stop at the outboard platform edge, ensuring positive locking of the roll-stop as long as the platform is floating in the air.
  • Automatic locking of the platform inside the cassette, with automatic release when sliding out (no more platform lock to release manually upon deployment of the lift)
  • Simple and easy-to-use 2-button wander lead with an integrated emergency stop, and a compact plug
  • New pump unit with quick-fit plug-and-play connections for wiring and hydraulic pipes
  • Electric control board with LED diagnosis possibilities, emergency control over dip-switches, and improved vehicle interconnectivity
  • New mounting tools.

Thanks to these evolutions, the DH-CH102 / CH103 have become totally different lifts in comparison to previous generation. The new generation has added a lot of value, for the end user in terms of extra safety and comfort of use; but also for the installer in terms of ease of installation and integration in the overall vehicle.

Big platform roller on DH-LSU.90 (13/06/2016)

Big platform roller on DH-LSU.90

Upon introduction in 2008, the DH-LSU.90 was launched with 2 separate platform support feet, to prevent the platform hands from digging into concrete (and other) road surfaces. In future, the heavy duty steel platform of the DH-LSU.90 will be equipped with a large steel platform roller mounted between the vertical platform beams, very much like its predecessor DH-ESU. The steel platform roll has been redesigned to improve on its rolling capabilities, and is finished in Zn-Ni coating.

With extreme lift capacities ranging from 7.500 to 9.000 kg, the DH-LSU.90 forms the absolute top of the tail lift industry. This lift is mainly used for the transport of heavy machinery, fork lifts, agricultural tractors etc… Hydraulic stabilizing legs are standard on this lift.

New DH-LM10.07 for Iveco Daily with natural gas propulsion (03/05/2016)

Iveco Daily chassis with CNG natural gas propulsion are equipped with a number of gas tanks in the overhang behind the rear axle. In applications where a tail lift is needed, these gas tanks conflict with the lifting mechanism and its mounting plates, and additionally cause problems in terms of ground clearance when one of the known cantilever solutions would be fitted.

With the development of the DH-LM.10.07, DHOLLANDIA has come up with the perfect solution for this type of vehicle. This new purpose-built lift is available with dedicated quick-fit mounting plates, a slim lift frame that nicely wraps around the gas tanks and maximizes the ground clearance, and a specially certified RUPD (rear underrun protection device). The DH-LM.10.07 will soon be available with towing hitch construction.

Apart from the special characteristics mentioned above, the DH-LM.10.07 will benefit from the many technical and functional features that have driven the success of the 4-cylinder lift DH-LM.10 worldwide. More options for DH-VO.07.K1 shown at CVS Birmingham (28/04/2016)

DHOLLANDIA has taken opportunity of the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham to high-light a number of options, available on its light-weight column lift DH-VO.07.K1.

Specially designed for open-tray bodies (drop-side, flat bed,…), one of the 2 models was exhibited with following features:

  1. Full-aluminium lift frame and lift runners [option OVF015], to minimize the weight of the lift, and maximize the pay-load of the vehicle.
  2. An air-permeable platform (**) with composite grids [option OVP509.C]. In comparison to the steel mesh platforms, composite grids have a weight advantage, cannot suffer from any form of corrosion, and are foreseen with a non-slip top coating.
  3. Light-weight side safety rails mounted on the lift runners, offering side access [option OVP350.B].
  4. Short steel side loading ramps for loading & unloading objects on bigger wheels, such as sack barrows, bins etc… [option OVP125.LR].
  5. Roll-stop flaps integrated in the leading edge of the platform, to maximize the useful platform space. Available as manual roll-stops [option OVP107.M] or as automatic roll-stops [option OVP107.A].

(**) More generally, air-permeable platforms offer following advantages on open-tray bodies:

  • Reduced wind resistance, improved fuel effiency and operating costs
  • Excellent anti-slip characteristics for the operator on the platform: rainwater, snow, mud, dirt, etc… are very quickly evacuated through the platform surface.

Air-permeable platforms are therefore often the preferred choice for the construction business, municipality maintenance services, gardening and ground work companies, gas bottle distribution vehicles.

Double-fold slider lift with increased platform stability (25/04/2016)

The typical operation of a DOUBLE FOLD slider lift (DH-SO…), in comparison to a SINGLE FOLD slider lift (DH-SM…), results in a visibly better stability of the 2nd group over the 1st group.

SINGLE FOLD slider lifts (DH-SM...) slide out to a hard stop positioned at a work position near the rear end of the slide tubes. When the platform is lifted up, it is pressurized hard against the rear sill of the loading floor. This maneuver maximizes the stability of the platform, and reduces any platform movement caused when moving load from the vehicle bed onto the platform, or vice versa.

DOUBLE FOLD slider lifts (DH-SO...) slide out too far, to allow deployment of the platform, and subsequently slide in again to find their work position against a stopper positioned at approx. 1/3 of the end of the sliding tubes . When the platform is lifted up and pressurized against the rear sill of the loading floor, the lever forces in the kinematics sometimes force the lift frame to creep out, providing a less than perfect alignment with the rear sill.

The NEW DOUBLE FOLD slider lift DH-SO6.20 encompasses an inversed blocking mechanism for the DH-SO6.20 in its work position, now providing equivalent stability as on SINGLE FOLD slider lifts with similar capacity. This blocking mechanism is a purely mechanical system, and doesn’t rely at all on vulnerable sensors or electronic components that can form the weak link in adverse weather conditions.

Very much like the DH-SO8.20, the DH-SO6.20 platform is composed of 3 sections: a rugged fixed steel section, which also forms the RUPD (rear underrun protection device), plus 2 light-weight aluminium folding sections. The DH-SO6.20 is offered in hot-dip zinc plating finish, and is available in 1500-2000 kg capacity with platforms of 1800-2000 mm. Thanks to its compact design, the DH-SO6.20 mounts in shorter mounting space than the known DH-SO7.20 and DH-SO8.20 (for comparable platform depth). In comparison to earlier generations, the forces needed to manually unfold and stow the platform, have been greatly reduced, and the operator confort level improved.

Column lift for gas bottle distribution with galvanised platform (25/02/2016)

Maximum safety in the handling of the product, is top of the list of priorities of gas bottle distribution companies. DHOLLANDIA gas bottle lifts type DH-VO.15.K1 fulfil the most stringent requirements imposed by worldwide operators. The column lift incorporates a number of functional features, that are extremely instrumental in offloading gas bottles safely:

  • column lift platforms travel up and down in a straight line behind the vehicle body (cantilever, slider and fold-away lifts describe an arch, whereby the platform moves away from the body);
  • column lifts are equipped with a flat platform, so that tall and narrow gas bottles stand as stable as possible on the platform during the whole descend cycle (cantilever, slider and fold-away platforms tilt down at ground level, bringing the gas bottles out of balance).

The option packages OVU012.A (for aluminium platforms) and OVU012.S (for steel platforms) transform the standard column lift DH-VO.15.K1 into a specialized lift for the gas bottle handling, including

  • automatically folding safety rails on 3 sides (with open mid-section), to support and hold the gas bottles when offloading
  • centrally mounted articulated ramp, functioning as fall-protection when locked in 90° vertical position, and serving as loading ramp when deployed over 180° to reach to the ground.

In standard execution, the platform is opened by hand (supported by powerful torsion bars hidden inside the platform). Hydraulic closure is available as an option [OVH004], maximizing the comfort for the operator, and the operational safety. Steel platforms are available in hot-dip zinc plated finish [option OVT121.P]. Zinc-plated platforms offer the following advantages:

  • extremely durable
  • outside + INSIDE protection of the steel structure against corrosion
  • better anti-slip protection than most painted surfaces

The standard K1 version lifts up to the vehicle floor level. The optional K9 execution [option OVU013] reaches to levels above vehicle floor level, for instance to access a higher loading dock.

Whether you need to move cars professionally, or purely for fun, DHOLLANDIA offers the right lift to do so safely!  

The cantilever lifts DH-LSU are available with a dedicated option package for the transport of cars [ref.OAU007], that includes:

  • an extension of the main platform to 3000 mm [10x ref. OAP302]
  • reinforced  horizontally folding ramps in aluminium, in 2 separate sections [ref. OAP404.2]
  • and reinforced stabilizing legs with 10T capacity [ref. OAH010.LE]

For cars up to 2.000 kg proper weight, DHOLLANDIA recommends the lift type DH-LSU.40 in 3.000 kg execution. For heavier cars up to 3.000 kg proper weight, the specification is upgraded to a DH-LSU.60 with 4.000 kg capacity.

Although OAP404.2 is default on this option kit, the following ramps are available for discussion

  • Light weight folding ramp with flush hinges, full width [ref. OAP403.1]
  • Light weight folding ramp with flush hinges, in 2 separate sections [ref. OAP403.2]

For applications where full width ramps risk to become too heavy to manipulate, there is solutions available with additional torsion springs to alleviate the weight of the folding ramps, and facilitate the handling.

Mature range of fold-away liftgates for North-American market (28/12/2015)

Since its launch in Canada in 2013, and the USA in 2015, Dhollandia has developed a full range of fold-away liftgates specially adapted to the North-American market. This range comprises of 2 light to medium-duty fold-away liftgates with half-dip ride, and 2 heavy-duty fold-away liftgates with level ride. With more than 3 decades of experience in building fold-away liftgates, this technology was not at all new to DHOLLANDIA. But there was sufficient differences in the way of mounting and the options offered, to justify a tailor-made range of liftgates, targeted to fulfill local habits and expectations 100 %.

2 important innovations that DHOLLANDIA wishes to bring to the market, besides all safety features mandatory under CE safety regulations:

  • Replacement of low-entry full steel platforms by light-weight aluminium platforms
  • Introduction of hot-dip zinc plating (or “galvanized” finish) as standard finish for both lift frames, and extension plates + side ladders and dock buffers.

The North-American lift range comprises off:

DH-RP.10 with 1000 kg lift capacity:

  • compact light-duty fold-away liftgate with half-dip ride

Improved battery box for slider lifts (26/11/2015)

In many cases, slider lifts DH-SMR.20 / SMR.30 take up the full mounting space behind the mud-guard of the vehicle. Hence, finding space for a battery box in the same area can be troublesome, and mounting the battery box on the chassis can be quite time-consuming. For (semi-) trailers with I beam chassis, DHOLLANDIA has offered a battery box [option OAE400.24 + OAE406.L or OAE406.H] premounted on steel UNDER-MOUNT sliding tubes [options OAM031 + OAM032.S] for many years.

DHOLLANDIA has taken advantage of SOLUTRANS to show the second generation of this battery box option, as part of a richly equipped DH-SMR.30 (see below). This battery box can be manually pulled out from a stow position deep under the vehicle body, to a service position close to the side edge, to facilitate maintenance and repair on the batteries and fuses. The sliding system on the new battery box configuration has been vastly improved, so that the driver or service technician can pull the battery box out or push it back in, with much greater ease than before. In function of the installation parameters and clearances, the battery box can be mounted lower or higher on the steel sliding tube [OAE406.L or OAE406.H].

DHOLLANDIA uses BUSWORLD as launch platform for wheelchair lifts with extra lift capacity (17/10/2015)

BUSWORLD Kortrijk (16-21 oct.) counts as one of the world’s most important exhibitions for Bus & Coach Builders, and their suppliers. The rising expectations and demands of modern society for a high quality basic mobility for all citizens, including persons with a physical impairment, is increasing the importance of wheelchair lifts and other access systems very quickly.

Wheelchair lifts are not new innovative as such, but they have been restricted for a long time in lift capacity and feasible applications. DHOLLANDIA has invested significant efforts in recent years to develop heavy-duty passenger lifts with increased lift capacity and a larger platform surface, in meet the highest requirements of the operators of public transport.

DHOLLANDIA exhibits 3 new passenger lifts at BUSWORLD, which fit the philosophy:

  1. The cassette lift DH-CH102 (model year 2016) forms a new synthesis of the development experience gathered in the last 5 years, and lifts the functionality and finish up to a fully new level. This lift offers 350 or 500 kg lift capacity, and can be mounted in various positions in the bus: integrated in the lowest stop of the access stair; above the wheelbox of the bus; or on the floor of the luggage compartment.
  2. The fold-away passenger lift DH-RB (model year 2016) is usually mounted in front of a rear mounted engine. This lift has been fully redesigned to be able to guarantee 500 kg nominal lift capacity, and a number of functional details was further optimised (such as the roll-stop at the outboard platform edge, the safety rails, and the automatic ramp at the inboard platform edge).
  3. The range of linear 2-arm lifts DH-PH2 (for minibuses and ambulances) was extended to include a “bariatric” 500 kg execution suitable for increased lifting heights, with longer platforms up to 1600 mm, e.g. to load and unload longer scooters, stretchers and hospital beds.

Quality lifted further with ZINC-NICKEL finish for small parts (16/09/2015)

DHOLLANDIA has realized quantum leaps forward in the quality of finished product over the last decade. When DHOLLANDIA introduced Protection PLUS in 2007, this finish was right at the top of the average finish available in the tail lift industry. Some manufacturers offered zinc-phosphate plus powder coating. Other manufacturers offered epoxy KTL. But no one else offered the innovative technologies of 3-cation zinc-phosphate plus epoxy KTL plus polyester powder coating combined in one single finish process.

The introduction of HOT-DIP ZINC PLATING in 2012, was a next giant step towards offering maximum, unrivalled corrosion protection. DHOLLANDIA was the first manufacturer in mainland Europe to offer hot-dip zinc plating, or GALVANISED finish, as standard finish on a wide assortment of mainstream product. In the early days, clients could select either finish at the same price. Now, the large majority of clients choose to receive DHOLLANDIA lifts in hot-dip zinc plated finish for obvious quality reasons. Only a small portion of product is still supplied in Protection PLUS finish, which still ranks at the top of the available alternative finishes offered in the tail lift market.

Because of the great advantage that hot-dip zinc plating protects the outside and the inside of steel structures alike (*), the scope of application was quickly broadened from lift frames and mounting plates to complete steel cantilever platforms. (* e-coatings and conventional paint systems only provide outside corrosion protection, no inside enhancements).

Today, DHOLLANDIA embraces a prime-quality ZINC-NICKEL plating finish for the smaller mechanical structures, articulation pins, couplings, bolts, etc… ZINC-NICKEL offers a much better corrosion protection than the technologies used so far, apart from other advantages such as improved hardness and reduced hydrogen embrittlement. Qualities that will prove to be extremely useful on specific tail lift components, such has the articulation pins. Current plans also include the zinc-nickel plating of hydraulic cylinders. Apart from the rise in build quality, the assembly of zinc-plated cylinders on hot-dip zinc plated lift frames will definitely lead to more color homogeneity, and improved aesthetical looks.

Zinc-Nickel plating will be introduced gradually over the next couple of months, on newly built tail lifts first, and on spare parts for older lifts in a second phase. Loyal to the corporate values, these chemical processes are applied in state-of-the-art production lines, with maximum respect for our living environment.

DH-LSP.10 custom made for Iveco Daily factory built panel van (14/09/2015)

DHOLLANDIA has a more than 2 decades of experience and a very solid reputation in designing and manufacturing quick-fit solutions for cantilever lifts on factory built panel vans. Key factors in the success of the DH-LSP product family are:

  • the intelligent shape of the lift arms, following the contours of the bumper bar, and eliminating the necessity to cut in the rear sill of the vehicle chassis
  • the compact premounted hydraulic pump unit
  • the wide choice of tailor made quick-fit mounting plates, adapted to the majority of vehicle brands, their various wheelbases and overhangs; and also adapted to particular lift options (platform with / without safety rails; full width platform versus foldable platform;  platforms replacing the rear doors of the vehicle [option OAT200…], etc…)
  • the premounted and CE-certified towing hitch constructions

With the 3 lift types DH-LSP.07.02 / .03 / .04 DHOLLANDIA covers the majority of factory built panel vans manufactured out of Europe, and their technical equivalents marketed in other continents. Specifically for Iveco Daily, DHOLLANDIA offered efficient solutions before, first with lift type DH-LC2.07, more recently with lift type DH-LSP.07.02. Both these solutions are now replaced by a new lift type DH-LSP.10, tailor made to suit the current generation of Iveco Daily factory built panel vans in the best possible way.

The lift type DH-LSP.10.01 suits Iveco Daily vans with 1120 mm rear overhang (measured from the center of the rear axle). The DH-LSP.10.02 is geared up to fit on chassis with 1520, 2120, and 2520 mm of overhang. These lifts are available in a 500 kg execution (2 lift cylinders + 1 tilt cylinder), and in a 750 – 1000* kg execution (2 lift + 2 tilt cylinders). They are equipped with full aluminum platforms of 1300 and 1550 mm deep. Unlike the usual DH-LSP which have their tilt cylinders on the back of the platform, these DH-LSP.10 carry the tilt cylinder(s) alongside the lift arms, like conventional DH-LM cantilever lifts. Hence, besides the license number plate and its lights, the rear face of the platform is completely free for publicity purposes.

Small mezzanine lift DH-VZK.05 (28/08/2015)

In warehouses where forklifts are not (or not always) available, column lifts can be a very helpful tool to move pallets or roll-cages from the ground level to a mezzanine floor, and backwards. The DH-VZK.05 is one of the smallest alternatives in Dhollandia’s offer of stationary column lift applications.

The DH-VZK.05 offers 500 kg lift capacity on a 1000x1600 mm full aluminum platform, and can reach up to approx. 4000 mm lifting height. The platform can be closed and stowed vertically to clear the floor space, and is manually opened when it’s operation is required. The DH-VZK shown on the photos in this newsflash has following characteristics:

  • spring-operated articulated bridge plate at the inboard platform edge
  • fixed leading edge at the outboard platform edge
  • roll-stops just in front of the fixed leading edge at the outboard platform edge
  • one longitudinal safety rail at the opposite side of the lifting mechanism
  • one swinging lateral safety rail across the outboard platform edge
  • 380 V pump unit

The DH-VZK is designed for lifting / lowering goods only. It can be operated in manual mode (operator continuously pressing up or down button), or in automatic mode (lift travels up or down automatically within a safe working range). Container lift DH-VBC.25 for road-trains (27/08/2015)

The column lifts type DH-VBC.25 and DH-VHC.30 have acquired a very solid reputation in applications using containers and demountable bodies, or to offer maximum clearance on trucks with a draw-bar coupling. Less known is the use of such “container lifts” on road trains, as used in Australia, Scandinavia, and more and more tested in Western Europe.

The DH-VBC and DH-VHC container lifts are equipped with very short lift columns and extra-long lift runners. As a consequence, no parts of the lift protrude below the underside of the body or container. And containers can be stood down on the ground without any obstruction by the lift columns, or any damage to the lift system. In comparison to certain systems with foldable column sections available on the market, DHOLLANDIA container lifts don’t require any manual labor to deploy the foldable columns, and contain much less moving parts, which are vulnerable to damage and wear.

The photos in this newsletter show a DHVBC.25, mounted to the sliding body of the A-train of an Australian Big-Double road train. The lift offers up to 2500 kg nominal capacity, and full-closure platform depth. The basic DH-VBC are designed as single-deck lifts, but other executions are available offering multi-deck loading, with lifting heights up to approx. 500 mm from the roof level.

3-side safety rails for column lifts (14/06/2015)

Besides operational reliability and durability, driver and operator safety is one of the key concerns of DHOLLANDIA in any tail lift design.  Health & Safety executives in various countries have identified drivers falling from vehicles, and tail lift operators falling from lift platforms as one of the main causes of work-related accidents in the transport industry. Hence, they have made the mitigation of  this risk a key priority area. With more than 20 years’ experience in building safe lifts for double-deck vehicles, DHOLLANDIA leads the industry today with a vast selection of safety rails, adapted to the different tail lift families, and suitable for very wide range of applications and industries. In order to minimise the risk of operators falling from a platform, we strongly encourage the use of one of the many solutions available.  Be aware that specific legislation exists in a number of countries, make sure you comply!

The photos in this newsflash show 3-side safety rails mounted to the lift runners [option OVP351] of a single-deck column lift type DH-VO.10.K1 with 1700 mm full aluminium platform, installed on an Airport Ground Support vehicle. In travel position, these safety rails are nicely stowed between the closed platform and the rear side of the vehicle body. After opening the platform, the operator can choose to deploy only the 2 side safety rails and leave the outboard access open; or to deploy all 4 side + rear panels of the safety rails and to create a fully fenced-in platform working environment. As the side and rear sections are articulating, manipulation of the various panels is swift and trouble-free. Where side loading or unloading is required, the safety rails can also be swung over to the side to clear the side access.

In order to further maximize the comfort and safety of the operator, the platform of this lift is opened and closed hydraulically [option OVH004].

DH-VOCS with floating platform point (10/06/2015)

Going further form the latest newsflashes on DH-VOCS dated 18/03/2015 and 24/05/2015, the photos in this bulletin show the advantages of the floating platform point [option OVP214].

On the majority of light-weight 1-deck column lifts, including the DH-VOCS,…

  • the platform is closed by hand (manual closure);
  • and the platform orientation is non-adjustable (fixed 90° angle between the lift columns and the open platform in work position).

For platforms with a rigid, fixed leading edge, it can prove to be more difficult to align the platform point with the ground for loading and unloading, if the truck is standing on a hill, on uneven ground, or if the cargo floor of the truck is not reasonably level with the ground. DHOLLANDIA’s DH-VOCS offers 2 solutions, enabling trouble-free  alignment of the outboard platform edge with the ground:

  1. Foldable ramps at the outboard edge of the platform, split in 2 sections [option OVP120.A.R – see previous newsflash 24/05/2015]
  2. Floating platform point [option OVP214]. This floating point is a full-width profile that articulates from the rear area of the platform, and drops down to approx. -50 mm below the platform level, to close any reasonable gap between the underside of the platform and the ground.

The foldable ramps [option OVP120.A.R] have the advantage that they can be raised in vertical position to serve as trolley stops, and that they are split in 2 separate sections allowing for even better alignment with uneven ground than a full width profile. But the shift from travel position to trolley stop position, and further to access ramp position is done by hand (extra manipulation to be executed by driver). The floating point [option OVP214] is fully automatic (requires no operator handling), but the point profile goes full width and adapts just that little bit less easily to local unevenness in the ground.

The foldable ramps [option OVP120.A.R] are available on all 3 DH-VOCS types: DH-VOCS.07 type 1 and type 2, plus DH-VOCS.10 (always type 2).  The floating point [option OVP214] is not available on DH-VOCS.07 type 1, only on DH-VOCS.07 type 2 and DH-VOCS.10 type 2.

Using K9 technology to load / unload to the loading dock (24/05/2015)

Going further from the latest newsflash on DH-VOCS dated 18/03/2015, this series of photos shows how DH-VOCS in K9 execution, and equipped with hinged ramps at the outboard edge of the platform, can be used to transfer cargo from a smaller vehicle with lower floor level to larger vehicle with higher floor level, or to a higher loading dock.

  • The K9 technology enables the platform to reach out above the loading floor of the vehicle [option OVU013.C];
  • The hinged ramps at the outboard edge of the platform can be raised in vertical position to serve as trolley stops [option OVP120.A.R]. Once arrived at the higher floor level of the larger vehicle or at the higher loading dock, they can be swung open over 180° to form a loading bridge between the lift platform and the higher floor level.

  • Flashing platform lights [options OVE201.A + OVE202]
  • Automatically folding safety rails [option OVP332]

Solution K2 for narrow column lifts (23/05/2015)

As the lift cylinder of chain-driven column lifts type DH-VO.07.K1 and DH-VO.15.K1 is integrated in a cylinder beam mounted at the loading floor of the vehicle, the lifting height of such lifts is determined by the width of the vehicle body: the wider the body, the higher the platform can reach. This lay-out has significant limitations however for narrower lifts (e.g. narrow side-mounted lifts), because platforms wouldn’t be able to reach the vehicle floor level.

For applications where the body width was insufficient to make the platform reach the vehicle floor level, Dhollandia used to implement fully hydraulic column lifts with 2 vertically mounted lift cylinders. Today, a new configuration called “K2” enables the platform to reach almost 2x as high as the basic “K1” execution. Hence, the proven technology of chain-drive column lifts becomes available for much narrower applications than in the past.

The DH-VO.07.K2 offers 500-750 kg lift capacity, and is supplied with manual closure in default configuration. Higher lift capacities, hydraulic closure and an extensive list of options are available on special request. Whereas on DH-VO.07.K1 the hydraulic pump unit is integrated in the cylinder beam (if the vehicle dimensions allow), the pump unit is always external and chassis mounted for K2 lifts.

K2 lifts are often side mounted, and used in multiple applications such as the gas-bottle delivery, the tyre repair business, fire fighting trucks, etc…

Dump-through column lift in K9 execution for waste collection trucks (22/05/2015)

Waste management and public cleansing service providers are typical operators that can optimise their processes, increase utilisation of their fleet, and facilitate the associated labor by equipping the tipper vehicles used with a DHOLLANDIA DUMP-THROUGH column lift. For instance to collect household waste and dump it in a land-fill for disposal, or bring it back to a processing plant for recycling and revalorization.

The product used in fore-lying case, is a column lift DH-VO.10.K1 1000kg 1300mm in dump-through execution [option OVU010] with facility to lift the platform above the floor level of the vehicle [K9 execution = option OVU013].

When collecting waste, the lift platform is used to load and unload in a conventional way. In this application the travel of the platform is limited to the vehicle floor level (ground to floor, and vice versa).

When dumping waste, the lift platform can be raised  approx. 200 mm above floor level, to increase the ground clearance under the swinging platform as the tipper body is lifted up in the air. In this application, the extra lifting height of the platform above floor level is used to increase the ground clearance and protect the platform from damage on sometimes very uneven grounds.

The additional ground clearance provided by the K9 execution [option OVU013], provides the operator with the extra piece of mind when running column lifts in such hostile environment conditions.

Hinged ramps on integrated rear frame lift DH-VOCS (18/03/2015)

Since the integrated rear frame lift DH-VOCS.07.K1 won the Golden Innovation Award at Solutrans FR in 2013, Dhollandia has continued to develop this weight champion, increasing the lift capacity, and extending the number of options of the lift (*):

  • From 500-750 kg lift capacity on model DH-VOCS.07.K1 to 1000 kg on model DH-VOCS.10.K1
  • Possibility to integrate flashing platform lights on the platform [option OVE201.A + OVE202]
  • Lifting height above floor level up to loading to dock height [K9 execution = option OVU013.C]
  • Automatic safety rails/ fall protection [option OVP332]
  • Floating platform point to enable easy alignment of the point of the platform with uneven ground surfaces [option OVP214].

Now 2 new options have been launched that further expand the functionality of this lift:

  • Flip-up door opening up over 135° instead of 90° to increase the free clearance for the driver on K9 lifts with increased lifting heights above floor level [option OVF064]
  • 2-piece hinged ramps at the outboard platform edge, serving as roll-stops in the raised vertical position, or as access ramp in the fully open position [option OVP120.A.R]

New fold-away lift DH-RP.15 with half-dip platform ride (11/03/2015)

In order to satisfy the needs of the North-American commercial vehicle market, DHOLLANDIA has developed a new fold-away lift called DH-RP.15 offering 1000-1500 kg lift capacity. This latest innovation is positioned at the higher end of the DH-RP range. Whereas DHOLLANDIA traditionally always manufactured fold-away lifts with level-ride platform and automatic tilt at ground level (DH-RC and DH-RM, still very much available !), the DH-RP range offers half-dip ride platforms with progressive inclination while lifting and lowering. The latter are ideal for more price-sensitive markets such as rental fleets.

The main characteristics of the DH-RP.15 are:

  • 1000-1500 kg lift capacity
  • Robust yet light-weight lifting mechanism
  • Wide arm center + 2 lift cylinders for maximum platform stability
  • Lift frame fully hot-dip zinc plated (galvanized)
  • 1250 mm steel / aluminium or full aluminium platform
  • Available with sturdy bed extension plate plus side steps
  • Suitable for medium-duty truck up to 1300 mm floor height
  • Available with or without bumper bar.

In its travel position, the fold-away lifts such as the DH-RP.15 are safely stored underneath the chassis of the vehicle. As a consequence, they are ideal for operations needing frequent forklift loading and unloading, or access to loading docks, and they offer free access to the cargo space at all times. The DH-RP.15 are very easy to use, and have minimal impact on the pay-load of the vehicle.

New developments in rear-frame lift DH-VOCS (24/02/2015)

Following up from earlier announcements made at IAA Hannover 2014, the DH-VOCS is now available with 2 new important options:

  • 2-piece hinged ramps [option OVP12.A.R] at the outboard platform edge: from a folded stow position on the platform, these ramps can be turned over 90° and raised in vertical position as roll-stops; or unfolded over 190° as access ramps. In the raised position, these hinged ramps are perfectly suitable to prevent roll cages, trolleys, or other wheeled or sliding objects from rolling off the platform edges. At the ground, the hinged ramps can be opened separately, and form a perfect transition from the ground to the platform surface (or vice versa).
  • The K9 execution [OVU013.C] with lifting height above the loading floor of the vehicle to max. 1800 mm (depending on vehicle dimensions), is now available with a top flap hinging open over 135° instead of 90°. Thus the free standing height for the operator on the platform is increased, and the comfort during loading & unloading further optimized.

Interest from North-America for Dhollandia lift gates grows quickly (17/11/2014)

The last 2 years, Dhollandia has invested considerable resources in the development of tail lifts (or “lift gates” as they are called locally) for the North-American market. On the one hand, existing types of lift gates have been adapted to the local circumstances of use and expectations. On the other hand, new types and options have been added to the product range. Many years of experience in Scandinavia, Iceland and Siberia has helped Dhollandia to manage this transformation process successfully, and to prepare the North-American lift gates to the harshest winter conditions that can for instance be expected in Canada.

A lot of Canadian clients have shown interest in the meantime for Dhollandia’s new and refreshing approach to the local market, and for the cross-fertilization and synergies that can be realized between North-American and European technologies and working methods. A couple of examples:

  • Heavy-duty slider lift gates with large platforms instead of fold-away lifts with shorter platforms;
  • Standard hot-dip zinc plated finish or “galvanized” finish;
  • Fully bolt-on instead of welded mounting plates;
  • The use of high-quality raw materials, such as high-tensile steel and stainless steel (inox);
  • Articulation points with low-maintenance bushings and grease-nipples;
  • Water-sealed control boxes with IP67 rated electrical contacts;
  • Hydraulic fluids with extremely low pour point, making the use of double-acting circuits (power-down and power-open) largely redundant, and allowing to save battery power in a gravity-down execution;
  • And the many functional options that enable Dhollandia customers to adjust and fine-tune the lift gates to their particular needs and application.

The images in this newsletter show:

  • Fold-away lift gate DH-RM.25 with 2000-2500 kg lift capacity (4400-5500 lbs), and a heavy-duty 1600 mm (63’’) full aluminium platform. This lift gate can be mounted with a bed extension plate behind the vehicle body (image 1); or with the floor plate integrated and recessed in the vehicle floor (image 2).
  • Fold-away lift gate DH-RP.10 with 750-1000 kg lift capacity (2500 lbs), and a light-weight 1250 mm (49.2’’) full aluminium platform. (See images 3 and 4).
  • Slider lift gate DH-SM.30 with 2000-3000 kg lift capacity (4400-6600 lbs), and a reinforced steel/alu or full alu platform of 1700 to 2100 mm long (66.9'' to 82.67") depending on the available mounting space. Can be combined with a pintle hook. (See image 5).

These 3 types of lift gates are offered with Power-Down function on request of the Canadian customers.

New dump-through column lift for tipper vehicles (06/11/2014)

Dhollandia offers various column lift solutions for tipper vehicles. DUMP-OVER  lifts have a foldable platform, which can be lowered below the floor level of the vehicle before the body is tipped up, and its content (household waste, green waste, sand, gravel, etc…) dumped on the ground. In such cases, the content of the vehicle body is DUMPED OVER the folded lift platform. [Option OVU011 or OVU014].

DUMP-THROUGH lifts can function as a regular lift platform, and take the cargo on the platform up / down in the conventional way. Or the platform can be used as a swing door, hinging from a couple of articulations at the top extremity of the platform, opening up and swinging open when the body is tilted up, and its content dumped on the ground. In such cases, the content of the vehicle body is DUMPED THROUGH the aperture formed by the swing door platform. [Option OVU010]

When the vehicle is dumping its load, the ground clearance under the swing door platform depends on the length of the platform, the floor height of the vehicle and the roughness of the terrain. In order to maximize the ground clearance for any given platform size and vehicle floor height, DHOLLANDIA has developed a K9 execution, whereby

  • The platform in deployed work position nicely stops at the vehicle floor level, when it is being used to lift / lower cargo in the regular way;
  • The platform in stow position can be raised 200 mm (*) above floor level, when it is going to be used as dump-through swing door.

There is 3 advantages to this system:

  1. When dumping, the ground clearance under the swing door platform is improved by 200 mm (*)
  2. When dumping, the open window through which the cargo is dumped is significantly increased, and the risk that falling objects damage the interior platform surface strongly reduced
  3. The old work procedures to change the lifting platform into a dump-through swing door have been thoroughly simplified, making it an easier and faster job for the driver / operator.

Dump-over and Dump-through lifts are extremely suitable for the following applications: waste management / waste collecting companies; municipal operators; garden service and landscaping enterprises and similar professions using tipper or dumper vehicles.

(*) 200 mm is the factory standard. But other dimensions are available on request, resulting in less or more clearance.

Niches building the future... (26/10/2014)

As the European tail lift market is becoming increasingly mature, and the wheel has already been invented more than once, DHOLLANDIA is focusing on developing options and variations that can fine-tune the basic lifts to any client’s individual requirements, and add significant value to the client’s transportation business.

Some of these variations relate to bespoke client wishes for particular jobs (which DHOLLANDIA develops on an almost permanent basis in function of projects sold). Many of these variations though are of a generic nature, and create solutions for the many challenges that the transport & distribution industry are facing today.

Steel platform in hot-dip zinc plated finish for maximum durability (15/08/2014)

In order to act pro-actively, and make our most demanding clients in the transport and distribution sector benefit from the highest possible durability and best possible protection of their investment, DHOLLANDIA now offers steel platforms in hot-dip zinc plated finish, often also referred to as “galvanized” finish.

DHOLLANDIA started to offer hot-dip zinc plated finish in Q4/2012, but so far this treatment was mainly focused on the lifting mechanisms and their mounting systems, and the fixed steel parts of foldable platforms on slider lifts DH-S* and fold-away lifts DH-R*. The same is now also available for the steel platforms of cantilever lifts DH-L* (chose option code OAT124).

The hot-dip zinc plating finish has many advantages:

  • It is the best possible protection against corrosion
  • It protects both the outside and the inside of the steel platforms (whereas conventional wet-paint and E-Coat systems only treat the outside surfaces)
  • It offers better anti-slip characteristics on the work surface, than painted platforms
  • It increases the protection against shocks and wear, and improves the metallurgic characteristics of the steel substrate.
  • Green technology: life cycle assessments have proven that zinc plating is the most environmentally friendly method of anti-corrosion protection.

Hence, the zinc plated steel platform is an excellent value-adding option for fleets and operations that wish to run their tail lift equipment for many years.

Although a number of early adopters are operating the zinc plated platforms in “natural finish”, there is painting instructions available for clients who wish to have the hot-dip zinc plated platforms painted, and run the tail lifts in their fleet color. Additionally, the option OAT131 foresees in a glue-on cover plate, providing a completely smooth surface suitable for publicity purposes.

The DH-VOCS.07.K1 won the GOLDEN INNOVATION AWARD at Solutrans, the trade fair for haulage and urban transport professionals held at Lyon France from 19-23 Nov. 2013. Building further on the encouraging successes of the first generation of these integrated rear frame lifts, originally launched as 500-750 kg capacity lifts, DHOLLANDIA has now broadened the product range to include a more powerful 1.000 kg model of the same concept.

In relatively short time, The DH-VOCS has acquired a large group of supporters amongst body builders, larger fleets and even self-drive owners. All-new fold-away liftgate for the North-American market (13/04/2014)

DHOLLANDIA CANADA proudly presented the new DH-RM.25 fold-way liftgate at the Canada’s National Truck Show (Truckworld 2014) in Toronto earlier this week. DHOLLANDIA has been successfully selling fold-away liftgates for more than 2 decades, but the latest addition to the range is fully geared up to suit the North-American fitting and user’s conditions, and to offer full reliability in the harshest winter conditions.

Intelligent module for automatic platform opening & closure on DH-L* (25/03/2014)

Dhollandia offers various solutions to make trucks, trailers and semi-trailers equipped with a cantilever tail lift  DH-L* comply with the EN12642, the European standard for securing cargo on road vehicles. The option list includes a wide choice of 1-side or 2-side mechanical platform locks for steel and aluminium platforms, in function of the platform depth and pay-load of the vehicle.

The solution presented in this newsletter consists of:

  • 2 platform hooks, mounted at roof level in the left & right side corners of the body [option OAP428.LR if purchased from Dhollandia]
  • An intelligent electronic module OAE514 for opening and closing the platform automatically.

This solution awards DH-LM.10, LM.20 and LM.30 with EN12642 compliance up to 27.5T pay-load.

To open the platform on a default cantilever tail lift, the operator would have to drop the platform down by 10cm until it is liberated from the hooks mounted at the vehicle roof, then open the platform to the horizontal work position, and proceed with loading / unloading. To close the platform of the same lift, the operator would have to lift the platform to 10cm below the vehicle floor level, then close the platform, subsequently lift the platform again to engage it in the hooks mounted at the vehicle roof, and close it again to fully pressurize it against the rear frame of the body. All together a laborious procedure if one had to do this manually.

The electronic module of option OAE514 executes the opening / closing procedures of the platform fully automatically, on such vehicles equipped with roof mounted platform hooks. Hence the driver can open / close the platform without further worries. Option OAE514 is available on lift models DH-LM and DH-LSU with the standard gravity-down tilt cylinders (not for lifts with double acting tilt cylinders).

New generation taxi-lifts type DH-LSPH 500 kg with galvanized steel mesh platform (15/03/2014)

The 2014 model update of the DH-LSPH responds to the growing demand for more robust wheelchair lifts with increased lift capacity and larger platform surface. The dual tilt cylinder system that characterized the DH-LSP, LSPZ and LSPH until the end of 2013, is now replaced by a single tilt cylinder with internal spring. A tension rod between the platform and the lift arm increases the stability and sturdiness of the platform behind the rear doors of the minibus.

The platform of the DH-LSPH is manufactured from hot-dip galvanized steel, so that rain water, snow, dirt etc… are very quickly evacuated off the platform, and maximum anti-slip protection is guaranteed. The rear edge of the platform is equipped with a 100 mm high automatic roll-stop, that automatically deploys resp. stows when the platform itself is opened resp. closed. Articulated safety rails, foot controls and flashing platform lights are available as an option.

Award winning DH-VOCS now also available with safety rails (01/12/2013)

At Solutrans, the trade fair for haulage and urban transport professionals held at Lyon France from 19-23 Nov, Dhollandia’s DH-VOCS won the GOLDEN INNOVATION AWARD  in the expo’s contest for the most innovative product in the category “Equipment”.

In this article, we present a second execution of this lift, with modified columns that open the door for a number of new options, such as safety rails. The option OVP332 features a set 2 automatically folding safety rails mounted on the left and right side lift runners, and permanently attached to the platform. These safety rails OVP332 automatically deploy resp. stow when the platform is opened resp. closed. They provide a very effective solution to protect the driver / operator from falling off the platform while loading and unloading the vehicle.

 Various governments have identified falling from heights as a significant risk factor in the tail lift industry, and strongly motivate commercial vehicle operators to invest in means that minimize the risk that operators get injured when falling off the tail lift platform, or off the vehicle body more generally. Dhollandia launches new compact slider lift at Solutrans (23/11/2013)

Dhollandia took opportunity of the SOLUTRANS commercial vehicle exhibition to launch its new slider lift DH-SO.10. This replacement of the old DH-SMO.10 will serve lift capacities of 750-1000 kg, and has been foreseen with all the latest developments from Dhollandia’s engineering department to keep the lift compact, light-weight, reliable and easy to use.

Thanks to its ingenious construction and double-folded platform, the DH-SO.10 will fit in a very short overhang (893 mm for 1200 mm platform / 993 mm for 1400 mm platform / 1093 for 1600 mm platform). Thanks to the clever design and choice of materials, the lift has turned out to be very light weight (from 265 kg onwards), and offers an excellent pay-load on light commercial vehicles.

Like the majority of the new generation of Dhollandia slider lifts, the DH-SO.10 is equipped with a hydromotor and gear wheel system for the retraction (the old DH-SMO.10 had a centrally mounted retraction cylinder), and a couple of lightweight aluminum sliding tubes. Further, the lift is equipped with a full aluminum platform, 2 lift cylinders to guarantee optimal platform stability, and 2 fixed stabilizers. As an option, the lift can also be equipped with hydraulic tilt cylinders, enabling the operator to change the orientation of the platform. Loyal to Dhollandia’s philosophy, the lift is controlled by a robust and easy-to-use control unit with main battery isolator switch, without electronic components susceptible to failure and error. The lift is designed for light commercial trucks of 3.5-7.5 T. Special adaptions for difficult mounting situations around the vehicle spring hangers are available.

Safety rails and side loading ramps on slider lifts (12/11/2013)

Following up from our newsletter from 06/10/2013 [Combined safety rails + side loading ramps in new heavy duty execution], this newsletter highlights how safety rails and side loading ramps can be combined and used on slider lifts. The folding platform, and the limited depth of the first fixed part of the foldable platform call for different solutions than the ones presented earlier for standard cantilever lifts. The fore lying set-up foresees in a couple of side safety rails [option code OAP204.LR], and a demountable side loading ramp [option code OAP023].

The safety rails ref. OAP204.LR are mounted on the left and right side of the platform, and are equipped with a rotating foot, that allows the drivers to load / unload over the side of the platform. These rails can be rotated from a longitudinal position, offering adequate protection against falling when standing on the raising / lowering platform, to a lateral position that enables side access to the ground or to the curb. When deployed in the latter lateral position, the rails delimit a safe working zone for the operator, and warn third persons in traffic or on the curb for the ongoing loading / unloading activity. The folding point is made narrower than the first fixed part of the platform. Upon stowage into travel position, this folding point is folded between the mounting feet of the safety rails, and the safety rails are folded down and stowed on top of the platform point.

The side loading facility consists of 2 fixation profiles for side loading ramps ref. OAP024.LR,  mounted on the left and right side of the platform, and a demountable side ramp ref. OAP023 hooking into these side mounted fixations. As the side ramp is conceived as demountable plug-in bridge plate, it can stretch out over almost the full depth of the platform, and offer sufficient space to load / unload merchandise comfortably and safely over the side edge of the platform. The standard size of the side ramp is 800x800 mm, but other dimensions are available on request.

Various governments have identified falling from heights as a main risk factor in the tail lift industry. Safety rails should be fitted and used for all applications where a significant risk exists that the operator could be injured when falling off the platform. The options above offer maximum protection against falling from heights, whilst adding the facility to load and unload over the side of the platform.

Cantilever platforms in mesh steel make it possible to realise important fuel economies! (23/10/2013)

Cantilever lifts type DH-LM.10 (500-1000 kg) and DH-LM.15 (1000-1500 kg) are predominantly sold with aluminium platforms, or to a lesser degree with steel platforms. The option OAP018.01 presented in this newsletter, features a platform in steel mesh finish.

On flat bed vehicles with an open tray body, this kind of steel mesh platform significantly reduces the wind resistance of the platform in its travel position, and improves the fuel efficiency and the operating costs of the vehicle in the same degree. In a more general way, the steel mesh platform surface enables to evacuate rainwater, snow, mud, dirt, etc… very quickly off the platform. Thus it increases the anti-slip characteristics and the safety at work for applications such as the construction business, the municipality maintenance services, the gardening and ground works companies etc… Because of the added safety, steel mesh platforms are also very popular on gas bottle distribution vehicles.

In default execution, the mesh steel platforms are painted in KTL. As an option, they can be supplied in galvanised finish. Mesh steel platforms are available for cantilever lifts up 1500 kg (DH-LM.10, DH-LMQ.10, DH-LM.15). Higher capacity platforms are only available on special request.

Combined safety rails + side loading ramps in new heavy duty execution (06/10/2013)

DHOLLANDIA has had combined safety rails + side loading ramps in the option program for many years, but they were mainly designed for trolleys / roll cages, with max. loads up to 750 kg (new option code OVP305, old option code S700). The new heavy-duty version (option code OVP305.B) is designed for trolleys and pallets, and is suitable for loads up to 2000 kg.  In standard configuration, the ramp measures 1000x1200 mm (HxW). Other dimensions are available on request.

OVP305.B consists of 2 reinforced, heavy-duty safety rails mounted sideways L+R on the platform surface, which can also be used as side loading ramp. From a travel position on the platform surface, they can be easily raised and automatically locked in vertical position to serve as safety rail / fall protection. From this position, they can be swung over to the curb to serve as side loading / unloading bridge.

DH-VO.07.K1 adapted for tipper vehicles (11/09/2013)

DHOLLANDIA manufactures a number of solutions for tipper vehicles, ranging from cantilever lifts with conical platforms, over short-overhang slider lifts, to DUMP-THROUGH and DUMP-OVER column lifts. The option OVU014 presented in this newsletter features a DH-VO.07.K1 column lift with 500-750 kg lift capacity, with a light-weight foldable platform [option OVP206 – see also newsletter from 10/05/2013], and a set of guide plates mounted to the lift columns.

When the platform is opened and unfolded, the lift can be used to load / unload the vehicle body in the conventional way. When the closed platform is lowered vertically, the side-mounted guide plates will stop it right below the floor level of the vehicle body. In this position, the access to the vehicle floor is completely free, e.g. to load or unload by means of a fork lift or to reverse into a loading dock.  When mounted onto a tipper body, whilst guaranteeing maximum ground clearance, this position allows the tipper body to be lifted, and goods loaded on the vehicle bed to be dumped over the platform onto the ground.

For tipper vehicles, ask DHOLLANDIA for a study to ensure the vehicle offers sufficient overhang and ground clearance in relation to the chosen platform depth.

New DH-LMQ.07 and LMQ.10 with round bumper bar OAF130 (10/09/2013)

Loyal to our policy of continuous product development and improvement, DHOLLANDIA has changed the configuration of the cantilever lift DH-LMQ.10 from a fixed 3-piece bumper bar (option code OAF100.ST) to a round bumper bar mounted to the lift arms (option code OAF130). In this new configuration, the lift arms are manufactured without cross tube, and a welded bumper is taking over the function of torsion tube.

The new execution offers a number of advantages:

1– Even more lateral platform stability;

2– Approx. 8 kg less proper weight, and more pay-load;

3– Much easier stock management for the bumper parts, in function of ever changing vehicle widths.

The new execution of the DH-LMQ will progressively replace the existing version with fixed bumper bar. In future, if fixed 3-piece bumpers are required, the model DH-LM.10 will be offered instead. For further information, we remain at your service.

Manual ramp for factory built panel vans (10/06/2013)

For the present, until further notice, the manual ramp DH-AM forms the final piece in DHOLLANDIA's very extensive range of van lifts, and confirms DHOLLANDIA's leading expert position as designer and manufacturer of creative loading solutions for factory built panel vans. The manual ramp further complements an already very rich product offer of 1-arm and 2-arm linear lifts, cantilever lifts, cassette lifts, interior column lifts, gas bottle lifts etc..., and will undoubtedly appeal to a new clientele with particular requirements.

The system consists of an aluminum ramp DH-AM, and a kit of body building elements forming a straight rear frame (option OAT200…) for the factory built panel van. Together they replace the rear doors of the van. The specifications of the aluminum platform and the body building kit are adapted and tailor made to the H2 versions of the majority of brands of factory built panel vans. The main characteristics of the system are as follows:

  • Aluminum platform, approx. 1850 x 1625 mm (HxW), depending on the brand of van
  • 750 kg load bearing capacity  (check the body builder instructions of the vehicle manufacturer for any further restrictions)
  • Rubber seal kit between the platform and the straight rear frame of the van
  • Mechanical platform locks on left & right side
  • Anti-slip profiling over the full platform surface
  • Opening & closing of the platform supported by powerful integrated torsion spring
  • Hence it is very easy and light to manipulate the platform into work position or back into closed travel position
  • Platform and body building kit to be painted in matching color by the installer of the lift.
  • Extremely light weight solution for applications where no real lifting movement is required.

Case study on weights and vehicle pay-load: mounting of the DH-AM on a Renault Master van

  • The removal of the rear doors resulted in a reduction of the vehicle weight of 74 kg
  • The body building kit and the aluminum platform add  approx. 135 kg back onto the vehicle

Conclusion: net weight of approx. 56 kg to be counted for the system, above the original vehicle weight.

Cassette wheelchair lift with extendable platform for shorter mounting space (03/06/2013)

The public transport and the touristic sectors are faced with a rapidly growing demand for safe and comfortable access solutions for wheelchair users and persons who’s mobility is impaired in another way. Within this context, vehicle restrictions can call for creative solutions and adaptions, to marry up the available mounting space on the vehicle with the legal and functional imperatives of the lifting mechanism.

The latest development in DHOLLANDIA’s product range is called DH-CH003.03. The main virtues of this lift :

1-      The slim geometry of the cassette: with an overall height of 130 mm, the DH-CH003.03 ranks amongst the lowest cassettes in the industry.

2-    The manually extendable platform: thanks to a simple and heavy-duty sliding mechanism, the platform can be extended very easily from a retracted stow position to an elongated work position;  and the lift can be mounted in a space that is 400 – 450 mm shorter than the existing cassettes in the product range.

Overall, the cassette measures 1500 x 1017 x 130 mm (L x W x H), weighs 205 kg, and offers 350 kg nominal lift capacity. In its current configuration, it is designed for a max. floor of 1070 mm (C max = 350, CO max = 720), but other vehicle dimensions are achievable on request.

From a technological point of view, the DH-CH003.03 adopts all the features, characteristics, and components of the DH-CH100-102-103 range.

Column lift with folding platform for pick-up trucks (10/05/2013)

The light-weight column lift DH-VO.07.K1 offers 500-750 kg lift capacity, and can be supplied with a foldable full aluminium platform (option OVP206) that offers a number of distinct advantages for pick-up trucks or other commercial vehicles with a open tray body:

- Saving fuel: the stowage of the platform in folded position reduces the wind resistance; and increases the fuel economy of the vehicle.

- Fork lift access: the folded platform can be lowered vertically below the loading floor of the vehicle, so that heavy or bulky items can be loaded / unloaded safely by means of a fork lift (no need to drive the fork lift onto the lift platform).

- Loading dock access: with the closed platform lowered below the floor of the vehicle, it is much easier and safer to access and reverse into a loading dock. The dock bridge can be laid over the closed platform directly on the vehicle floor, and allow transfer of the goods to and from the dock.

- Easy mounting: the lift is mounted to the rear cross member of the vehicle, and to the vertical posts of the tray body. If no solid vertical posts are available, mounting corners can be supplied with the lift (option OVM001). Such column lift can be mounted without any chassis considerations (no influence of available overhang, position of spring hangars, chassis width, position of spare wheel, etc...). When the vehicle dimensions allow it, the hydraulic power pack is premounted inside the cylinder beam of the lift, making its installation an even faster job.

In this article, the folding platform (option OVP206) is shown on a light weight DH-VO.07.K1 lift with 500-750 kg capacity, but it is also available for the heavier duty DH-VO.15.K1 execution offering 1000-1500 kg capacity.

Dump-over column lift for tipper vehicles (19/04/2013)

DHOLLANDIA recently added a new DUMP-OVER execution to its extended range of DH-VO.15.K1 column lifts. This new addition, available under option code OVU014, supplements the existing DUMP-OVER and DUMP-THROUGH columns lifts already available since many years.

OVU014 consists of a foldable platform, and a couple of side-mounted guide plates. When the platform is opened and unfolded, the lift can be used to load / unload the vehicle body in the conventional way.

When the closed platform is lowered vertically, the side-mounted guide plates will stop it right below the floor level of the vehicle body. In this position, the access to the vehicle floor is completely free, e.g. to load or unload by means of a fork lift or to reverse into a loading dock.  When mounted onto a tipper body, whilst guaranteeing maximum ground clearance, this position allows the tipper body to be lifted, and goods loaded on the vehicle bed to be dumped over the platform onto the ground.

For tipper vehicles, ask DHOLLANDIA for a study to ensure the vehicle offers sufficient overhang and ground clearance in relation to the chosen platform depth.

Coach lift DH-CH101 with maximal descend range (21/03/2013)

DHOLLANDIA offers a wide range of cassette lifts for mounting on midi-busses and coaches, in order to help wheelchair passengers embark and disembark in all comfort, and with maximum safety.

The range includes cassette lifts for mounting under the bus floor or chassis of the midibus; and the very popular integrated stair lifts (whereby the cassette is built into the lower step of the stair at the access door of the coach). The DH-CH101 shown on the photos attached, are specially designed to achieve a maximum descend range, and are mounted high in the coach; ex. in the luggage compartment just below the loading floor, or in the wheel box above one of the axles.

Up to 100 kg more pay-load with DH-VOCS column lift! (15/03/2013)

Body rear frame and hydraulic tail lift combined into 1 single component!

The commercial vehicle industry is searching continuously for techniques and methods to make vehicles lighter, and maximize their pay‐load. Taking into account its position in the overhang behind the rear axle, the proper weight of a tail lift can be of major influence.

Simultaneously, the body building industry is increasingly eager to obtain quick‐fit solutions, readily adjusted to suit their particular bodies and manufacturing requirements, and needing a minimum of specialised labour for the installation.

Until recently, all DHOLLANDIA lifts were treated with Protection PLUS. This state‐of‐the‐art finish combines innovative technologies such as 3‐kation zinc phosphate, KTL epoxy electro coat and polyester powder coat, to raise the quality and corrosion protection of DHOLLANDIA lifts to a level well above the average in the tail lift industry.

Today, following the footsteps of numerous body builders and trailer manufacturers, DHOLLANDIA has chosen to aim for the highest possible finish quality, and to offer hotdip zinc plating on the majority of lift products.
 
The hot‐dip zinc plating will be marketed as STANDARD on a wide range of lift types, and offered as an option on the ones that keep Protection PLUS as default finish.
